Assignment 2: Surface Design

I didn't have an image in my head initially, so I found some random examples of surface design throughout the week that were interesting. I ended up with a framed circular design influenced by floral and gothic motifs like you'd find on a book or the back of a card.

I also made some strange organic shapes to emphasize the focal point and to make it feel a little unsettling I added the eye in the center of the smallest flower.

I was torn between purple/red traditional gothic colour palettes or a floral green colour palette. The purple version ended up being my least favourite so I like the other two best. I created an arrayed version of both for the final design.

The ten pictures  I used as a reference:

Books I bought at the bookstore. (I wanted to read them anyway).

Cards from my Granny's house.

A floor at a museum.

Wall piece which inspired the frame.

Outdoor rug.

Peel and stick stained glass. The flowers inspired the floral vibe I wanted to go for.

The side of a Staples building.
