Assignment 2: Laser Cut Tile

 

Here are the results of my tile design. It's a cheaper material, but I love the appearance of the wood's colour and textures. For the tile, I used cherry plywood. Sadly, with the cherry wood, the darks and grey hatches are difficult to tell apart once cut, so this was disappointing. The other plywood options would have darker values but I liked the red tones in the cherry wood. 

Once the project is over I will try and darken some lines up, especially in the centre. 

I thought about making the inner area of the border hollow but I was worried the rest of the design would fall out or snap off, so I changed the border shape. I think it suits a tile more like this.

Project Reflection:  Overall, I really enjoyed this project and I've learned a lot throughout the course. On the other hand, I feel like I need to practice more and that became very apparent when surface modelling. I'm already trying to think of different ways I should have approached this as I'm not super satisfied with the end result of the wite-out dispenser.  The interior parts are accurate and I'm confident with them. However, I had to make a lot of adjustments to the shell of the object and the way that I created it was flawed. Because of this, it's a lot more angular and less round than I would've liked. Basically, for the top case I modelled a flat planar surface and trimmed out a shape for the divot and lofted.
